AS9100 / IA9100
AS9100D to IA9100 Aerospace Quality Management
IA9100 is the planned successor to AS9100, issued as a single international document rather than separate regional versions. WCH implements AS9100D now and structures the system so the IA9100 transition is a controlled update.
When it changed — or when it will
The IAQG is developing IA9100 as the next international 9100 standard, intended to publish in late 2026 in alignment with ISO 9001:2026. A draft for broader industry review has been expected toward the end of 2026. Exact publication and OASIS scheme dates are still set by the IAQG.
Current edition: AS9100D (2016). Incoming edition: IA9100.
When certification to the new edition is required
A formal IA9100 transition window has not been published. Sector schemes often use about two to three years after publication. Until IAQG and the certification scheme publish rules, keep AS9100D current and treat IA9100 as an upgrade of that system — not a reason to delay certification.
How the standard is changing
- Alignment with ISO 9001:2026 structure and language, including quality culture and leadership expectations that flow into aerospace.
- A single IAQG international 9100 text (IA9100) in place of separately branded regional 9100 documents.
- Continued aerospace-specific controls — product safety, counterfeit parts, configuration, human factors, and customer flow-down — refined rather than discarded.
- Scheme and auditor authentication changes will follow IAQG OASIS rules; those are separate from the clause text and will be communicated as they freeze.
Transitioning
The practical path is to certify and maintain AS9100D, then gap the live system to IA9100 when the published text and transition rules exist. Organizations that wait to start 9100 until IA9100 is on the street postpone bidding for aerospace work.
Timing that fits the organization
Primes still require AS9100D today. Organizations that need access to that work should implement the current edition. When IA9100 is published, some will transition at the first eligible audit; others will use the full scheme window. WCH will support either calendar.
