ISO 9001 is the international quality management standard. AS9100 uses ISO 9001 as its base and adds aerospace-specific requirements: configuration management, operational risk, counterfeit parts, special processes, critical items, production process verification, and more rigorous product safety and project management expectations. IA9100 is the IAQG’s next 9100 standard — the same family, under an international name — so aerospace customers will still require a 9100 certificate, not ISO 9001 alone.
If you only sell commercial industrial work, ISO 9001 may be enough. The moment an aerospace or defense customer appears, AS9100 (and, once published, IA9100) becomes the ticket onto the approved-vendor list and into OASIS.
You do not throw away ISO 9001 to get AS9100 or IA9100. WCH upgrades a healthy ISO 9001 system, closing aerospace gaps without rewriting what already works. Shops that never had ISO 9001 start there and layer AS9100 as soon as the customer mix requires it — with the system structured so the IA9100 transition is an update, not a second implementation.
Customer flow-down is where many aerospace implementations fail. The certificate is not enough if purchase orders, drawings, and special-process requirements never make it to the floor. WCH builds flow-down into the process, not as an appendix.
